On May 9, 2025, India successfully thwarted an alarming attack on its military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur. The Indian Defence Ministry reported that Pakistani-origin drones and missiles targeted these bases along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir. Using advanced kinetic and non-kinetic methods, the threats were neutralized swiftly, with no casualties or material damage reported.
A Growing Conflict at the Border
This incident follows a series of escalating clashes between India and Pakistan. On May 7, India launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians. India blamed the attack on Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. In retaliation, Pakistan shelled Poonch on May 7-8, killing 12 civilians and injuring over 50.
The May 9 attack involved:
- Eight missiles and three drones targeting military stations.
- Interception by India’s S-400 and Akash air defense systems.
- No reported losses, thanks to quick military response.
Pakistan’s Denial and International Concerns
Pakistan denied any involvement, with its Defence Minister calling India’s claims “unfounded” and politically driven. While India cited debris as evidence, independent verification is lacking, leaving the attack’s origins unclear. The incident triggered blackouts in Jammu and disrupted flights across northern India.
