In a world that often limits dreams by age, Maniamma, a remarkable 74-year-old woman from Kochi, Kerala, stands as a living example that passion never retires. With licenses to drive 12 different types of vehicles, she’s not just an accomplished driver — she’s an inspiration for every generation.
Early Life & Marriage
Born in a small, remote village in Kerala, young Maniamma was always curious about life beyond her surroundings. Her spark of curiosity turned into determination when she married at the age of 17 and moved to Kochi.
Her husband’s deep passion for driving became her guiding light. Together, they shared a love for the road, and that companionship soon evolved into her own fearless pursuit — learning to drive.

Entering the World of Driving
Encouraged by her husband, Maniamma obtained her four-wheeler license in 1981 and later, a heavy vehicle license in 1984. At a time when driving was considered a “man’s job,” Maniamma decided to change the narrative.
She fought through stereotypes and red tape to start Kerala’s first Heavy Driving School. It took her two long years to get official permission, but she never gave up. Today, that persistence has become a part of her legacy.
Achievements & Records
Maniamma now holds 12 types of driving licenses, which include:
- Car
- Two-wheeler
- Three-wheeler
- Bus
- Lorry
- Trailer
- Crane
- Tractor
- Forklift
- Excavator
- Road Roller
- Hazardous Drivers License
She is recognized as the oldest woman in India with the maximum number of driving licenses — a record that truly sets her apart.
Overcoming Adversity
In 2004, when her husband passed away, life came to a standstill for Maniamma. Yet, instead of giving up, she chose to continue their shared dream.
She transformed her driving school into a full-fledged technical institute, now known as the A2Z Institute of Heavy Equipments, helping hundreds of young men and women learn technical and heavy vehicle driving skills.
Education & Passion
At the age of 72, when most people think of slowing down, Maniamma enrolled herself in a Diploma Course in Mechanical Engineering.
Her thirst for learning proved that education has no age limit — and that growth is a lifelong journey.
Message & Legacy
In her own words:
“If you work hard and believe in yourself, anything is possible. Learning is endless, and age is just a number.”
Maniamma’s story isn’t just about driving — it’s about driving change. She has become a symbol of resilience, courage, and the unstoppable power of will.
Her journey reminds us that no dream is too big, and no age is too late to begin.
