Mumbai, May 18, 2025 – The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has restarted after a week-long halt due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) relaunched the tournament on May 17, 2025, with a high-energy clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru, reigniting excitement for the world’s top T20 cricket league.
The pause, starting May 10, was triggered by security concerns amid border disputes. A recent ceasefire agreement allowed the BCCI to resume the IPL with a revised schedule, featuring 17 matches across six venues: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai. The final has been rescheduled from May 25 to June 3, 2025, with playoffs beginning May 29.
Challenges persist, particularly regarding overseas players. Some, including Australian bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, may not return due to safety worries or commitments like the World Test Championship final. The BCCI is collaborating with teams to address these issues, implementing enhanced security protocols.
Fans have embraced the IPL’s comeback, with packed stands and strong viewership for the opening game. The BCCI is confident in delivering a thrilling season, maintaining the league’s global popularity despite the earlier setback.
